This filter is identified by the yellow markings on the filter. This is the first stage in the filtration process. This filter removes particulate matter down to 10 micron nominal. It is designed for removing things like sand, sediment and rust particles, and it will stop most of the particulate matter that is picked up in the pipes. The filter itself is a self encapsulated polyethylene blown filter media (imagine cotton candy) inside a sealed filter housing which is spun welded together to form a aseptic disposable filter housing. The filter is rated to last about a year depending on feed water quality.

This filter is an extruded carbon block pre-filter designed to remove many of the VOC (Volatile Organic Chemicals) from the water. VOC are normally man made chemicals, which have long unpronounceable names. This filter primarily removes the chlorine prior to the RO (reverse osmosis) membrane. Additionally this filter removes particulate matter, but the pre-filter should handle most of that. This filter is rated at 10 micron nominal.

The RO (reverse osmosis membrane) is a self-cleaning self-flushing filter technology that uses water pressure to “force” water through a semi permeable membrane that has a pore size of about 1000/th of a micron. These pores are so small that most molecules cannot pass through them. Those things that can’t fit such as calcium, lead, arsenic, virus, bacteria, copper, proteins, sugars and any other dissolved solids will be flushed to drain. A properly functioning RO membrane typically rejects 95%-99% of all the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) that exist in the water. Because the systems are matched to the original RO membrane size, do not attempt to mix and match membranes.

If you already have a cooler and you need a filtration system only order the BigFish Dually two stage filter system includes 10 micron sediment pre-filter and 0.5 micron lead and cyst rated carbon block filter 2,500 gallon rated capacity. The unit includes 10 ft tubing , (1) shut off valve and (2) quick connect fittings that connect easily to 1/4 poly or copper tubing.

This filter is ideal where the TDS (total Dissolved Solids) of the feed water are 200ppm or less (approx 11 GrainsPerGallon). Check with your local water utility for your TDS or Hardness. If your water is high in minerals, you may want to consider a Reverse Osmosis System
